So, in emails our office manager often uses the expression "do the needful" when he means "do what is required." As in, "I will do the needful and arrange to have someone come fix your air conditioner (again)/arrange for an electrician to (possibly) fix your exploded outlet (but probably not)/get new keys made (because yours don't actually fit the lock)/etc."
I thought this was just a quirk of his idiolect, as he is not a native English speaker. We have a running joke about how "doing the needful" sounds vaguely pornographic.
